Blood Moon

Blood Moon

What it is

"Blood Moon" is a popular term for the moment during a total lunar eclipse when the Moon appears reddish. The color comes from red wavelengths refracted through Earth's atmosphere reaching the Moon — a sunrise magnified ten-thousandfold. Not a separate eclipse type astronomically, just the visual result of a total lunar eclipse. Observable 0-3 times a year; throughout history a source of dramatic myths (Gilgamesh, the Bible, Aztec, Chinese observers).

Astrological reading

Astrologically the blood moon is a lunar eclipse with peak energetic intensity. A normal lunar eclipse already means closure; the "blood moon" gives that closure a particularly dramatic, visual, memory-stamping form. Historically associated with major events — not coincidence; lunar eclipses affect collective emotion, the blood moon is that effect's visual seal. Its astrological effect doesn't differ from a regular lunar eclipse, but emotional intensity feels higher.

Practice

If possible watch it visually — the experience is valuable beyond astrology. Then write: what is closing, what passed? Don't dismiss it as "looked dramatic"; the human psyche works more deeply with the visual.
