Secondary Progressions
Secondary Progressions · Day-for-a-Year
How it works
The basic formula of secondary progressions: each day after birth corresponds to one year of life. If you're 30, the sky 30 days after your birthdate tells you what matters in your 30th year. The method was systematized by Placidus in the 17th century and became modern astrology's standard "inner development" map. Progressed Sun changes signs roughly every 30 years — this is a major identity transformation. Progressed Moon changes signs every 2.5 years; a tracker of the emotional-motivational cycle. Classical tradition doesn't use it; modern psychological astrology took it as a central method. Read like the "film unfolding year-by-year" of the natal chart.
When to use it
To understand long-term personality development. What are you living through internally this year? Look at the signs and houses of progressed Sun, Moon, Mercury. Transits are good for "outer events"; progressions are the map of "inner movement."
