Koch
Walter Koch (1895-1970)
birthplace houses · German origin · extremely latitude-sensitive · modern alternative
How it divides the sky
The Koch system performs time-division indexed to the birthplace's geographic latitude. The difference from Placidus is bringing this geographic reference forward. If you say "my birthplace matters, my houses should be tied to it," Koch works. Still quadrant-based; breaks at high latitudes but slightly differently from Placidus.
When to use it
Common in Germany around the Hamburg School. If you work with German-based astrology or are influenced by Reinhold Ebertin, you use Koch. Otherwise, Placidus practically produces a very similar result; an extra complexity.
History
Walter Koch published it in 1962. His students popularized it in Germany; it crossed to the English-speaking world after Koch.
