Project Hindsight Begins

Hellenistic astrology revival · Ancient text translation initiative

What happened

Robert Schmidt, Robert Hand, and Robert Zoller founded Project Hindsight in 1993 — a project systematically translating ancient Greek, Latin, and Arabic astrological texts into modern English. First translations: Vettius Valens (Anthology), Dorotheus, Antiochus, Antoninus, Firmicus Maternus, Hermes Trismegistus. These translations split modern astrology into two streams: psychological astrology (the 1900-1990 period) and the Hellenistic revival (1993-today). The Hellenistic revival's leading teachers (Chris Brennan, Demetra George, Ben Dykes, Austin Coppock) grew up on these translations. The classical tradition's techniques (time lords, profections, sect, almuten) began being practiced again after 1,700 years.

Why it matters

Today's "traditional astrology" movement began in 1993. When an astrologer says "I use Hellenistic technique" — they're here thanks to Schmidt + Hand's translation decision.
