Contribution

Rudhyar was 20th-century astrology's philosophical architect. Corresponded with Carl Jung; the first to integrate Jung's archetype theory into astrology. In his words: "Astrology is not a prophetic tool but an inner-evolution map." Read the natal chart as "a seed showing life's evolution." The Lunation Cycle introduced the system of psychologically interpreting the Moon's 8 phases one-by-one (later developed by Bruno Huber, Steven Forrest). Also a composer, painter, philosopher — the founder of the "transpersonal astrology" movement. Health issues drove his move to the US, where he brought Indian theosophy and Eastern philosophy to astrology.

Why they matter today

Founding figure of modern psychological + transpersonal astrology. Today's "evolutionary astrology" school (Steven Forrest, Jeff Green) rests on Rudhyar.
